Real-life moment captured in a candid documentary style

Embla Nilsson

Embla Nilsson is a Swedish tattoo artist and muralist whose practice spans both intimate and large-scale formats. Working across skin, public space, and community environments, her work explores themes of identity, transformation, motherhood, and the human experience.

Over the past years, she has developed a multidisciplinary practice that combines tattooing, mural painting, and participatory art, as well as documentary photography and film projects. As a Director of Photography (DOP), she works with visual narratives that focus on people, environments, and authentic moments, often within social and community contexts.

Her work includes large-scale murals, live art and tattooing at events, and collaborative projects created together with schools, young people, and local communities.

Embla Nilsson regularly collaborates with municipalities, cultural initiatives, and organizations to create site-specific and community-based artworks. Through co-creation processes and workshops, her projects aim to strengthen participation, visibility, and a sense of belonging in shared spaces.

Alongside commissioned and collaborative work, she maintains an active studio practice and shares her work with a growing international audience through digital platforms.

Based in Sweden, she works with private clients, public art commissions, and cultural projects.
